  • The storefront of the Kroger Company with a long line of people waiting to go into the new grocery store.

    Photographs of the Howell Shopping Plaza Opening, 1100 East Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan, May 21, 1958.

    Occupants of the new plaza were Kroger Company, First Federal Savings, Dickson Pastry Shop, Akin-Craig Insurance Agency,  and Misener Pharmacy.

    This photograph was taken during one of Howell's Street Fairs.  For a number of years, the fair was held in the center of Howell on Grand River Avenue.  This photograph was taken in front of the Livingston County Courthouse.

    The names of the persons and exact year is unknown but believed to be in the early 1900's.  Below is an advertisement for the Great Howell Street Fair.

    This is a photograph of the closed and "For Sale" service station at Six Corners, Howell Township, Livingston, Michigan, 1984.   Six Corners was name given to the intersection of West Grand River Avenue, Fleming Road, and Warner Road.

    This is a photograph of a band member followed by a Baseball Team marching in a parade in Howell, Michigan.  They are traveling west on Grand River Avenue, and in the background are cars, W. D. Adams Department Store, Standard Gasoline Station, and the Howell Theater.

    The name of the parade, names of the persons and date of the photograph are unknown.

    This (labeled) 1914 photograph was taken on South Michigan Avenue (Division, East) near the intersection of Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan.   It show acrobats performing, a speakstand, and streets lined with spectators.

    This is an aerial photograph of Howell Michigan; the year is unknown.  The photo is looking north and in view is East Grand River Avenue, and the Ann Arbor Railroad Tracks as they curve to the west; Thompson Lake is in the background.

    This photograph appeared in the August 28, 1963 issue of the Livingston County Press, and was originally published February 13, 1935.  Thomas Cotter  found a copy of this photograph in 1935 while going through the effects of his late mother, Mrs. Emma Watkins.  Mrs. Watkins died in 1934, and lived for many years on Fowler Street.  The photograph was said to have been made by photographer, W. E. Cleave  and older persons in the community estimated it was made sometime between 1865 and 1870. The photograph was later taken by Ed Beach and Wilbur Johnson to L. Nelson to be enlarged. 

     The view is from the top of Union School and is looking north towards the intersection of Grand River Avenue and Michigan Avenue (Division Street).  The exact year is unknown.

    A full description of the buildings in this picture are included in the  1935 Article.  The buildings include a hotel,  bank, dry goods store, grocery, print shop, Masonic Hall, barber shop, and in the distance three buildings on what was then the Bowers farm.

    This is a panoramic view from the south side of Grand River Avenue, Howell, Michigan, 1900.  The view is of the intersection of  West  and East Grand River Avenue and  Michigan Avenue, known locally as Main Four. Michigan Avenue was previously known as Division Street (1915) and East Street (1895).
