Grain Elevator, Byron, Michigan, C.H. & D.R.R., by Ed Beach
This is a photograph developed from a glass negative of a grain elevator next to railroad tracks. The lettering says, "C.H. & D.R.R." which was the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad which was a company operating out of Ohio. The location was Byron Michigan but the date of this photograph is unknown.
On May 1, 1863, the CH&DRR leased the Dayton and Michigan Railroad in perpetuity. In 1891, it acquired the Cincinnati, Dayton and Chicago Railroad, while in March of that year it added the Cincinnati, Dayton and Ironton Railroad. -
Grand Opening of Wrigley Supermarket, Grocery Store, Howell, Michigan - 1963
Wrigley Supermarket, opened in August 1963 at 505 E. Grand River Avenue, on the southeast corner of Grand River Avenue & Fowler Streets, in Howell, Michigan. The grocery store held a Grand Opening and Howell City Mayor Clifton W. Heller snipped a ceremonial ribbon.
The Wrigley Supermarket was a 10,000 square foot newly constructed building with a 75 car parking lot. The grocery store featured modern equipment, and mechanical handling, storing, and selling of a great variety of food products.
The photographs are from the Open House.
The local manager of the Wrigley Supermarket was George Courtright. -

This is an image of Grand River Avenue, with the Eastern House, originally the Brighton House, on the right. The owners, the Sturhbergs, changed the name when the Western House was built. The Eastern House in Brighton, Michigan was a stage stop between Lansing and Detroit. It was built in 1846; it burned down in January 1926 -

Looking East from near corner of North Ann St. Grand River Avenue, Fowlerville, Michigan - after 1917. The building with the arched top is Sprague's garage and still stands but the brick and arch are hidden behind wood siding. The building to the right of Spragues is a Horse Shoeing business. -
